HET HWC
Tweetalig onderwijs
Op het HWC hebben wij opleidingen voor vmbo-t, havo,
atheneum en gymnasium. De school biedt deze
opleidingen zowel in het Nederlands als in tweetalig
onderwijs (TTO) aan. TTO houdt in dat je sommige
vakken in het Engels doet en andere in het Nederlands.
Maar TTO is meer dan alleen goed je talen leren spreken.
Het onderwijsprogramma is ook gericht
op wereldburgerschap en persoonsontwikkeling,
waarvoor we ook aparte leerlijnen hebben ontwikkeld.

Internationale oriëntatie voor iedereen
Tweetalig vmbo-t biedt je de kans om iets extra’s uit je
opleiding te halen. Je kunt je breed ontwikkelen en je
horizon verruimen – en dat alles in internationaal
perspectief. De Engelse taal is belangrijk voor de
toekomstige werkomgeving. Steeds meer bedrijven zijn
op zoek naar Engelssprekende werknemers. Stagelopen
of werken in het buitenland is natuurlijk ook een optie.
Ook andere vreemde talen worden in versterkt
onderwijs aangeboden. We brengen je in contact met
diverse bedrijven uit Europa. Leerlingen met het Anglia
Certificaat voor beheersing van de Engelse taal zijn
beter toegerust voor een studie of opleiding in het
buitenland. Steeds meer mbo-opleidingen vragen een
hoger niveau van Engels of worden zelfs in het Engels
aangeboden. Voorbeelden hiervan zijn opleidingen in
de horeca, luchtvaart, handel en in de reiswereld.

HET HWC
Kunst & cultuur
Onderwijs in kunst en cultuur stimuleert een open, nieuwsgierige en
onderzoekende houding. Het nadenken over en het zich laten
verwonderen door kunst geeft leerlingen ook inzicht in wie zij zelf
zijn. Kunst en cultuur is individualistisch, maar ook sociaal. Het gaat
over empathie, inlevingsvermogen, ‘je kunnen verplaatsen in’. Naast
de ruimte om jezelf te kunnen zijn staat de verantwoordelijkheid als
groep om goed met verschillen om te gaan. Kunstonderwijs levert
dus inzicht in andere culturen en kunstvormen, ontwikkelt creatief
denken en levert intensieve sociale interactie op. Leerlingen leren
om met een open blik naar de wereld om hen heen te kijken.
Onderwijs in kunst en cultuur levert zo een belangrijke bijdrage aan
de kernwaarden ontmoeting en verbinding. Dat maakt het een
belangrijke pijler van de school.

Ik heb gekozen voor het HWC omdat ik hier tweetalig onderwijs kan volgen. Het is geen school waar je alleen moet leren uit de boeken, maar een school waar je leert in de praktijk.
Een favoriet vak heb ik niet echt. Ik vind godsdienst en geschiedenis meestal wel interessant; afhankelijk van de thema’s die we behandelen.

Mijn zus zat al op deze school en ook mijn kerk zit in de school. Daadroor was het voor mij al een beetje bekend terrein en was het HWC een logische keuze. De school voelt knus en fijn aan. International Crossover Class
The International Crossover Class (ICC) provides high-quality
international education tailored for children aged 10, 11, or 12 who are
deciding between Dutch or international education, offering a
unique crossover year to support their decision.
In the Dutch educational system, secondary schooling begins a year later than in international systems. For students who
have completed international primary education and wish to enter Dutch secondary education, the ICC offers a valuable
bridging year. During this year, students complete Middle Years 1 (MY1) of the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC).
We complement this with Pearson’s International Maths and English programs, and all lessons in Maths, English, and IMYC
are delivered in English.

HET HWC
INFORMATION IN ENGLISH
Hermann Wesselink College is a Dutch school with a strong
international orientation. We offer bilingual education at the three
main levels of Dutch secondary education: vmbo-t, havo and vwo.
Bilingual education means that the curriculum is taught in two
languages: some subjects are taught in English, while others are in
Dutch. Therefore, both languages are important.
It is important to realise that Hermann Wesselink College is not an
international school. The bilingual character of the curriculum, in
which both Dutch and English can be the language of instruction –
means that it is not automatically possible for students from
international backgrounds to start at Hermann Wesselink College.
Furthermore, we would like to emphasise that the national final
exams are all in Dutch. It is therefore essential that, by their final year,
students need to be able to understand, speak and write Dutch at a
high level.
If you are considering enrolling your child to year 1 (or higher), the
level of Dutch of your child needs to be good enough to be able to
follow the Dutch part of the lesson programme. Students that opt
for the International Crossover Class do not have to speak Dutch yet,
as they will have a crossover year to learn Dutch. Lessons in Dutch as
a foreign language are provided by the school, but these will not be
enough for students who are new to Dutch, to achieve the starting
level they need for year 1. In order to be eligible for placement in our
bilingual department, it is important to realise that your child will
have to seriously work on his/her Dutch also outside school.

ACTIEVE LEERLINGEN
Op veel gebieden in school kun je als leerling actief meedoen: in het koor, toneel- en
muziekgroepen, in een sportteam maar ook als technicus achter de knoppen. Voor een
actieve leerling is er van alles te kiezen. Ook kun je op het HWC op allerlei manieren
meedenken, meepraten en meewerken. Je inbreng en stem zijn van groot belang voor de
kwaliteit van het HWC. Hieronder volgt een greep uit de mogelijkheden.
Het leerlingenparlement
Het leerlingenparlement organiseert veel leuke
activiteiten, met als hoogtepunt het Kerstgala. Naast
dit gaan ze 3x per jaar in gesprek met alle
klassenvertegenwoordigers en regelmatig met de
schoolleiding.
Gender and Sexuality Alliance
Op school is een Gay Straight Alliance actief; een
groep leerlingen uit onder- en bovenbouw, die samen
met enkele medewerkers aandacht vraagt voor
acceptatie van leerlingen van elke genderidentiteit of
seksuele oriëntatie.
De schoolkrant
De schoolkrant van het HWC is een gezellige en
inspirerende omgeving waar je jouw passie kunt
vertalen tot prachtige stukken, foto’s of ideeën die elk
kwartaal voorkomen in de krant. Heb jij interesse en
