Platform

In 2026, the HWC will have been in existence for 63 years. It is therefore not surprising that we have a great many former students and former staff members! To remain involved with our school and with each other, we have created an alumni platform, in addition to various social media channels on which we share news.

On this platform you'll find news reports, photos, and memories from the past. You'll also find an overview of organised activities, such as reunions. Furthermore, this is the place to go if you want to do something for current students: perhaps you'd like to come into school to talk about your studies, or about the company you now work for?

Do you have any nice photos or anecdotes of your own that shouldn't be missing from the HWC timeline? Simply share them via email in the private section. This way, we can make it a living entity together.

The HWC

History

Christian Lyceum

Our school was founded in 1963, although at that time it was still called Christelijk Lyceum Amstelveen and we were still located on Kastanjelaan. The school had actually been there since 1961, but was initially a satellite of the then Christelijk Lyceum Buitenveldert. Upon its establishment, Hermann Wesselink became the first rector of Christelijk Lyceum Amstelveen. After his unexpected death in 1971, the school was named after him.

Education expansion

In 1977, the HWC moved into a new building on Startbaan. A year later, we merged with Keulemans Mavo. From that year onwards, we offered mavo, havo, atheneum, and gymnasium. In 2002, bilingual vwo was added, followed by bilingual vmbo-t in 2014, and in 2018, bilingual havo also began. Furthermore, since 2022, the HWC has been a Culture Profile School.

History

New build

In the period 2019-2020, a new school was built next to the now-outdated building. A modern school that suits today's education. On 4 January 2021, we moved into the brand-new building.

Following this, the old building was demolished and the sports centre was newly built. The four gym halls were brought into use on 21 April 2023.
