Smile at School is a special project helping schools in disadvantaged communities in Ghana. One of the ways we contribute to this is by collecting school supplies and money together with the pupils. Since its start in 2018, we have been able to support around 3,000 Ghanaian pupils during their school period. With the money raised, we have, among other things, provided a school with a new roof, set up several mini-libraries and various computer rooms.
AND SO IT BEGAN

It all started about ten years ago through Fred Asumadu, a Ghanaian from a family of educators who wanted to establish a foundation to promote education in Ghana. Fred visited our school through one of our colleagues, and one thing led to another! We started small: a few classes collected school supplies in boxes and sent them to Ghana. Fred and his team ensured that the donated items were distributed among various schools. The foundation has since grown considerably, and the HWC remains the driving force. Meanwhile, there is a core group of about thirty students who voluntarily devise and run fundraising activities, and many HWC staff members are committed to Smile at School. Several school-wide fundraising days have also been organised, a partnership has been established with various companies, and a number of study trips to Ghana have been organised.
