Who are we

Who are we

Equal but unique

A school where everyone is equal, but no one is the same

The Hermann Wesselink College is a secondary school with the motto: everyone is equal here, but no one is the same. This means that at our school you are allowed to be who you are and that you treat others as you wish to be treated yourself. It also means that we want to help you develop as broadly as possible into a global citizen and discover where your talents lie: in the areas of languages, STEM subjects, or arts and culture. And even if things don't go so easily or if you're not feeling great, we will try to offer you support.

In short: we are a school where we look out for one another, where we accept each other, and where we encourage each other.

Mission – what do we stand for?

We are an ambitious school, where every student from a
a well-kept, safe and creative environment the space is given to
to develop into a global citizen ready for the future.

THIS IS HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Mission explained

Co-principal Katja Klip explains our mission: “Our school is ambitious, thanks to our motivated and expert staff. Our school is well-maintained, thanks to our beautiful, modern building. Our school is safe, because we treat everyone fairly and with respect. Our school is creative, because you can do all sorts of things in the arts and culture. Our school also offers plenty of space, so you can try out what suits you. Finally, global citizenship is the common thread at our school – both in the subjects and in the surrounding activities.”

“It's no coincidence that we offer all our courses bilingually,” adds deputy headteacher Hilde van Stelten. “Furthermore, we pay a lot of attention to different cultures. Our student population is also quite international: no fewer than a third of our students have been raised speaking a different language. The focus on diversity and inclusion is evident everywhere. For example, we have a theme day on racism and discrimination and we work with schools in Ghana. And even though our school has a Christian background, our celebrations are diverse: from Easter and Eid al-Fitr to Purple Friday.”

Vision

What does good education look like to us?

We work together to make the best possible education a reality. Colleagues, pupils and parents are all involved in fulfilling our pedagogical mission. We always start with dialogue and listen to each other. We see our differences as a strength. We set the bar high and take responsibility, but we also dare to ask. Because we need each other.
