Familiarity breeds contempt

Recently, our 12 second-year classes had a special themed day: “Familiarity Breeds Affection”, in collaboration with VluchtelingenWerk.

Refugees are often spoken *about*, but rarely *with*. This day was about meeting and understanding.
The highly educated Sona from Afghanistan shared her impressive story: from a life she had to leave behind overnight to building a new existence in the Netherlands. It deeply touched our students.
Together we learned: fleeing is not a search for happiness, but for safety.

We hope this day contributes to a school where everyone feels seen and welcome – especially the pupils at our school with a similar background.
