TikTok in court

During the ‘collective morality in action’ activity, the local venue for the religious/philosophical education class even turned into a courtroom. Students from the lower secondary school (havo 5) and upper secondary school (vwo 5) tackled an up-to-date question: How far should TikTok go with the use of footage of children?

As judges and lawyers conducted their own trial. The verdicts differed significantly: from a fine of €2 billion to a nuanced ruling: within 6 months improvement in privacy for children or else a fine of 750 million euros.

Some statements from the court: “But TikTok, you are terribly guilty!” “We are talking about vulnerable children here.” “It is important that parents take their responsibilities.” “Weren’t you also not 15 years old when you were on TikTok, Your Honor?” “Well, did anyone happen to listen to the opposing party?”

A lesson full of debate, critical thinking and media literacy.
