Online exchange with Japan

This year, the Global Perspectives subject is once again organising an online exchange for 21 Year 12 students with a Japanese school in the Saga prefecture. The programme included: getting to know each other, cultural exchange, but also discussing major themes such as future steps and international security.

The project is a continuation of a long-term contact with Saga Nishi High School in Japan, which has existed since 2015. In the past, there were also physical visits, but for the last five years, the exchanges have been online.

In three meetings, the pupils primarily get to know a very different side of the world. It was lovely to see that in the first meeting, some pupils immediately wanted to delve deep, and wanted to talk straight away about rather challenging themes like social inequality. At the same time, there was also much talk about anime, sushi, stamppot and stroopwafels.
