For pupils in HAVO 4 and VWO 4 who study German, an excursion to Essen and Cologne has been organised for April. This excursion was carried out as part of internationalization and citizenship.

On Friday 10 April, we travelled to Essen and Cologne in Germany with HAVO 4 and VWO 4 classes, setting off as early as 6:30 am! Essen is a lovely city, and we visited the Ruhr Museum there. In the museum, we learned about industry, the mines, and the workers of the past. The guided tour was also very interesting and educational, and the guide was very easy to understand as he adapted his German to our level.
After that, we went to Cologne. In Cologne, we visited the Cathedral, a large church. Construction began in 1248, had a long break from 1473, and was finally completed in 1880. The total construction period therefore lasted 632 years. We climbed all the way to the top via 533 steps; this was not compulsory. At the top, we had a beautiful view of the city.
We also had some free time to walk around. We spoke German and ordered food, and could understand it too. It was especially enjoyable with friends. All in all, it was a fun, well-organised school trip.
