We are proud of Michaël van der Meer, teacher of religion, religious education and global perspectives at the Hermann Wesselink College. He is co-author of the recently published book Examining religious texts and rituals in the classroom.
The book describes how students can examine religious texts and rituals in the classroom in four steps – situating, analysing, interpreting, and relating. Students who, according to this model, scrutinise religious texts and rituals themselves gain deeper insight into the sources and the traditions of which they are a part, than students who merely read about religious texts and rituals. In addition, they develop their analytical skills and an inquisitive attitude.
A great example of educational innovation!
