Year 12 debating

Last Monday, June 1st, it was time again for the annual Rotary debate competition between Year 12 students from the KKC, the AC, and the HWC. It was once again a memorable evening. The students demonstrated that the trainers from the Dutch Debating Institute had quickly taught them the intricacies of debating.

There were passionate pleas for allowing pepper spray as a defensive weapon, against laptop-free schools, or for an age limit on the use of social media.
Striking remarks (“old people of 40, 50...” or “to school by horse and cart”) were interspersed with passionate speeches, sharp arguments, and good retorts.

And then the jury, consisting of Rotary members and two school principals, had to deliberate on the winner. Never before in the long history of this competition had this happened: all schools had 6 points! So, three delegates from the schools had to give a speech on the spot to decide the winning school. And the HWC's Jayde performed so well that the HWC ultimately went home with the trophy!

Many thanks again to the Rotary for the organisation, and to all the pupils who enthusiastically supported this!
