Operation Egg Drop: Finding the Perfect Balance!
In the ICC, we love a challenge - especially one that tests our creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills! As part of our IMYC Balance theme, we took on Operation Egg Drop: designing protective vehicles to keep an egg from breaking when dropped from the first floor.
First, students researched parachutes and crash containers, then worked in teams to design and build using the same limited materials. The results? Three out of four eggs survived! One broke due to a last-minute malfunction, proving that even failures teach us valuable lessons.
Next, we raised the stakes: no material restrictions! Students borrowed from the Technology room and got creative with classroom items. Designs became more advanced, parachutes got bigger - will they work better, or will extra weight throw off the balance? We’ll find out in the next test!
And while we work on balancing our designs, we’re also working on balancing our languages! For the last part of the year, we’re taking on the challenge of doing IMYC lessons in Dutch to prepare for next year. It’s a good challenge for all of us, but just like Operation Egg Drop, learning and improving a new language is all about experimenting, improving, and having fun along the way!
